New Mac mini debuts with M6 and M5 Pro chips, starting at $899

Weeks ahead of its big September event, Apple surprised everyone on August 25 by announcing an updated version of its compact desktop, the Mac mini. The new model comes in two chip configurations: the base M6 and the more powerful M5 Pro.

The M6 chip delivers twice the storage throughput and a 40% CPU performance boost over the previous generation, making the Mac mini noticeably faster for everyday tasks, office work, and light production projects.

Connectivity has also expanded, with support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and 2.5Gb Ethernet (upgradeable to 10Gb). Both models are built to take full advantage of Siri AI 4 and Apple Intelligence 3.

The base M6 Mac mini starts at $899, while the more powerful M5 Pro version is aimed at professional users — video editing, development, and heavier compute workloads — starting at $1,599.

The new Mac mini models go on sale in stores and Apple's online store on September 22.
