Apple updates iOS 27.3 to give Siri AI access to third-party apps
Apple is rolling out iOS 27.3 Developer Preview, enabling developers to integrate Siri AI features across all third-party apps.

Apple has announced a major expansion for its Siri AI assistant, allowing it to perform actions across a wider range of third-party applications. Rolling out as part of the iOS 27.3 Developer Preview, the update enables developers to integrate new AI features directly into all apps.
- iOS 27.3 update allows Siri AI integration in all third-party applications.
- The assistant draws on personal context and processes natural language prompts.
- A new "app skills" feature lets developers combine multiple tasks into one action.
Enhanced Capabilities for Developers
With the new update, Apple is giving third-party developers the ability to incorporate Siri AI's advanced features into their software. The voice assistant can now process natural language prompts, utilize on-screen awareness, and draw on a user's personal context to seamlessly complete complex requests.
Additionally, the update introduces an "app skills" feature that allows developers to bundle several tasks into a single action. According to Apple's documentation, users will not need to mention an app's specific name when the app is in the foreground, during an active Live Activity, or while engaged in a conversation with Siri about that app.

Apple highlights a ride-sharing scenario where a user can request a ride, track its Live Activity status, and change the pickup address using a simple voice command without explicitly naming the ride-share app again. As 9to5Mac points out, Apple previously provided a much smaller set of capabilities to external developers.
At the same time, Apple is bringing these expanded AI capabilities to its own native suite of apps, including Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts, and Weather. Users can now perform advanced queries like finding a coffee shop visited the previous week or archiving old files.
Impact on the Ecosystem
This integration marks a significant step forward in making voice assistants a more cohesive part of the mobile experience. By allowing Siri to interact directly with internal app functions and third-party software, Apple is streamlining how users navigate their daily digital tasks.
