Beget restores VPS file backups following major cyberattack

Hosting provider Beget has issued an update on the recovery of its IT infrastructure following a massive cyberattack that occurred on November 2, 2026. The company is currently operating in crisis mode, focusing on restoring user access to file backups and stabilizing servers.

• Preparations are underway to provide VPS file backups within 24 hours.
• The control panel is being synchronized with backups, estimated to take up to 5 days.
• 99% of email servers are now operational.
• Billing has been suspended for all users until services are fully restored.

Infrastructure Recovery Strategy Beget's team is working in shifts around the clock. The recovery process is divided into two parallel tracks: restoring file backups and reconstructing the control panel interface. Some servers suffered more severe damage, requiring a complete redeployment of the software environment and services, which prolongs the timeline for those specific assets.

Impact of the Cyberattack The incident, which the company has officially declared a force majeure event, involved a breach of the management layer resulting in the execution of scripts that wiped data across the cloud infrastructure, including VPS, S3, and Kubernetes. While CDN and IP settings were lost, virtual hosting services are gradually returning to life, with 35% of servers reported as operational as of November 4th.

Implications for Developers and Businesses This event highlights the critical necessity for robust off-site backup strategies for all hosted services. While Beget is working tirelessly to recover data, the outage demonstrates that even established providers face extreme risks. For businesses, this serves as a reminder that disaster recovery planning is not optional, and redundant data storage is the only way to ensure complete business continuity.
