Envision Energy Deploys World's First 800V DC Power System for AI Data Centers
Envision Energy has completed the world's first commercial deployment of an 800-volt DC power system at its Galaxy AI data center in China.

Envision Energy has announced the completion of the world’s first commercial data center deployment featuring an integrated 800-volt DC power system. The new architecture is designed to address the massive power demands of modern artificial intelligence infrastructure by improving conversion efficiency and reducing physical footprint.
- Envision tested the Dubhe Controller and Dubhe Energy Foundation Model at its Galaxy AI data center in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, China.
- The system converts power directly from 10kV medium-voltage AC to an 800V DC bus, bypassing multiple conversion stages.
- The Galaxy campus plans to scale up to 3GW capacity to support up to one million AI accelerators eventually.
- Integrated battery storage provides millisecond-level coordination to absorb local GPU load spikes.
Advanced 800V DC Power Architecture
Traditional data centers rely on multiple power-conversion stages to convert grid power into a usable supply, resulting in inevitable energy losses. Envision's Dubhe technology streamlines this by converting power directly from 10kV medium-voltage AC to an 800V DC bus. This approach drastically boosts conversion efficiency and slashes the physical size of the power apparatus.
The system is anchored by three critical capabilities: stable solid-state transformer (SST) conversion across operating conditions, battery storage providing second-scale power support alongside minute-scale backups, and millisecond-level coordination between the SST and storage units to instantly absorb local GPU load fluctuations.

In addition to powering dense AI workloads, Envision's system is optimized to work seamlessly with renewable energy sources and storage arrays. AI-driven power management via the Dubhe controller smartly balances energy supply with fluctuating compute demands. Other notable benefits include a compact physical footprint and reduced requirements for copper cabling.
Having tested the technology since August at the Galaxy AI campus in Ulanqab, Envision is set to use the system as a core pillar for the site's expansion toward 3GW capacity. Furthermore, the firm plans to roll out this 800V DC tech in its Mission Gobi initiative, aiming for 5GW of green AI data center capacity in desert regions by 2030.
Significance for the AI and Data Center Industry
As artificial intelligence workloads scale exponentially, power availability and conversion efficiency have become primary bottlenecks for tech companies worldwide. Innovations like Envision's 800V DC power distribution pave the way for denser, more sustainable data centers capable of handling immense computing power without requiring proportionally massive physical footprints or traditional grid overhauls.
