Google Maps Updated to Fully Support iPhone Duo Displays

Google has released an update for Google Maps that brings improved display support for the iPhone Duo. The app now properly fills both the inner and outer screens of the foldable iPhone instead of leaving unused space along the edges.

  • Version 26.44.4 introduces full screen adaptation for the iPhone Duo.
  • Previous version 26.43.1 left a vertical black border on the right side of screens.
  • Interface elements are now properly repositioned across inner and outer displays.

What is new in version 26.44.4

The prior version, 26.43.1, was only partially optimized for the device. Users experienced a vertical black border along the right side of both inner and outer screens where the circular status bar resides. The new update resolves this, letting the map extend across the entire display without awkward spacing.

The map now extends across the inner screen naturally, featuring the search field in the upper-left corner. The Explore, You, and Contribute tabs are housed in a left-side panel, while map controls are neatly placed on the right, providing a seamless foldable experience.

Broader app adaptation trend for iPhone Duo

Google Maps follows a rising trend of popular apps adapting to Apple's foldable iPhone. Earlier this week, Zoom and several Microsoft productivity applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote, also received Duo optimization updates.
