Apple has released iOS 27.3 beta 1, introducing a surprisingly extensive set of new features and system improvements. One of the standout additions is the expansion of the iPhone Duo’s redesigned StandBy experience to other iPhone models.

  • Key updates in iOS 27.3 beta 1:
  • Bringing the iPhone Duo's redesigned StandBy mode to other iPhone models.
  • New Analog and Digital clock faces alongside Calendar and Weather options.
  • Support for Shared Albums within the Photos StandBy view.
  • Ability to create multiple versions of a StandBy face on iPhone 11 and later.

The evolution of StandBy mode

StandBy mode was originally introduced with iOS 17, transforming the iPhone into a smart display when placed horizontally while charging. Until now, users of standard iPhone models were limited to the original StandBy layout, lacking the advanced customization options exclusive to the iPhone Duo.

With iOS 27.3, Apple is removing these software limitations by extending the redesigned Analog and Digital clock faces to older and standard models, offering enhanced color choices and complications customization.

Enhanced customization and photo sharing

Along with the new clock options, the update introduces dedicated Calendar and Weather faces for the StandBy interface. This makes horizontal charging mode much more informative and useful for everyday tasks.

Furthermore, the update brings Shared Albums support to the Photos face, letting users pick specific shared picture collections to display. Users with an iPhone 11 or later can also create multiple versions of the same StandBy face and easily swipe between them.

Release date and what it means

iOS 27.3 is officially expected to launch in December, giving users plenty of time to test out the features in the beta cycle before the public release.

For everyday users and tech enthusiasts, this update bridges the gap between different iPhone lineups, making premium software features universally accessible and enhancing the smart display utility of Apple devices.
