Disney agrees to hire the majority of Character.AI workforce
Following its bankruptcy filing, chatbot startup Character.AI's employees will have the opportunity to transition to Disney.

After chatbot startup Character.AI filed for bankruptcy earlier this week, a major workforce transition is underway. Many of the startup's former employees will now have the opportunity to take on new roles at entertainment giant Disney.
This transition follows recent executive shifts, as Character.AI's former CEO Karandeep Anand recently became Disney's first Chief Technology Officer. Previously, the startup had also disclosed that Disney agreed to acquire a portion of its assets for $20 million.
This move highlights the broader trend of tech consolidation, where major entertainment and media corporations absorb specialized AI talent and assets as startups navigate financial pressures. Integrating advanced conversational AI capabilities remains a strategic priority for large-scale enterprises.
For the global tech industry, this development illustrates how traditional media companies are actively securing engineering talent and proprietary technology through strategic acquisitions, reshaping the competitive landscape for artificial intelligence applications.
