Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra tipped to use Snapdragon processor despite overheating concerns

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S27 flagship series continues to generate significant industry buzz well ahead of its expected launch. Recent leaks from industry insiders shed light on the hardware strategy, dispelling early rumors regarding potential shifts in the company's processor lineup.

  • The Galaxy S27 series will feature Ultra, Pro, base, and Plus variants.
  • Galaxy S27 Ultra and Pro models are slated to use Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips.
  • Base and Plus models are expected to rely on Samsung's in-house Exynos silicon.
  • The Ultra and Pro will also benefit from upgraded batteries and a redesigned camera layout.

Processor Strategy and Qualcomm's Response

According to a fresh report from well-known South Korean leaker yeux1122, Samsung will stick with its dual-chip strategy next year. The Galaxy S27 Ultra and Galaxy S27 Pro are set to run on Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 SoC. Specifically, the Ultra will pack the high-end Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, while the Pro model will settle for the non-extreme variant.

Earlier media reports claimed that Samsung was considering abandoning Qualcomm chips in favor of the Exynos 2700 due to alleged heating and efficiency issues with the Snapdragon processor. However, Qualcomm executives quickly refuted these claims, stating there are no systemic thermal issues with the 8 Elite Gen 6 chips. Cost considerations also play a role, as the Extreme variant is more expensive than standard processors.

Battery Upgrades, Design, and Launch Timeline

Beyond the processors, certification details have revealed battery specifications for the upcoming flagship models. The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to feature a larger 5700mAh battery, while the Pro variant will ship with a 5200mAh cell. This is a welcome upgrade from the 5000mAh limit seen in the Galaxy S26 Ultra and previous generations.

Both premium models will sport a refreshed design featuring a rectangular camera island on the back, whereas the vanilla models will maintain a floating design aesthetic. Samsung plans to launch the new flagship series in late January or early February 2027, arriving significantly earlier than previous release schedules.

What This Means for the Market

Samsung's decision to equip its high-end Galaxy S27 Ultra and Pro models with Snapdragon processors ensures top-tier performance for power users and mobile gamers. While pricing differences and regional variations may still apply, this hardware strategy reinforces Samsung's commitment to differentiation among its flagship tiers.
