Israeli firm is sending spyware through online ads, researchers say
Security researchers found that an Israeli ad tech firm worked with spyware companies to infect user devices simply by displaying online ads.

A joint investigation by security researchers at Citizen Lab and Confiant has revealed that an Israeli ad tech firm collaborated with spyware developers to compromise user devices. By simply displaying online ads, the campaign successfully infected targeted devices, including those belonging to Al Jazeera staff.
This marks the first time researchers have documented technical evidence of a zero-click attack delivered via online advertising. This sophisticated form of hacking requires no interaction from the victim, making it exceptionally difficult to detect and prevent through standard security measures.
According to the findings, malicious payloads were integrated into legitimate ad networks, exploiting vulnerabilities within the digital advertising ecosystem. This highlights severe security flaws and the potential misuse of automated ad delivery platforms for targeted surveillance.
Experts emphasize that such advanced spyware technologies are frequently deployed against journalists, activists, and high-profile individuals. The investigation serves as a critical wake-up call regarding the safety and integrity of global digital advertising infrastructure.
For the tech community in Uzbekistan and the broader CIS region, this incident underlines the growing complexity of cybersecurity threats. As digital advertising continues to expand locally, understanding and mitigating infrastructure-level vulnerabilities remains vital for protecting users and enterprise networks.
