WhatsApp starts suggesting your latest photos and videos right in chats
WhatsApp is rolling out a new media suggestion feature on Android and iOS to quickly share recent photos and videos.

WhatsApp is expanding its smart suggestion capabilities beyond emojis and stickers by introducing media recommendations directly inside chats. The new feature is currently rolling out to users running the latest versions of the application on both Android and iOS platforms. When opening a conversation, WhatsApp can now offer to send items recently added to the device gallery.
- The feature suggests the most recent gallery photo or video right when opening a chat.
- It appears either as a popup toast above the input bar or by replacing the camera icon.
- Tapping the suggestion opens a drawing editor first, preventing accidental shares.
- Users can easily disable the feature through the application settings menu.
How the Media Suggestions Work
The rollout includes two different display methods, though each user will experience only one depending on their version. In the first layout, a toast notification pops up directly above the chat bar displaying a thumbnail of the latest media file. In the second layout, the camera icon within the chat bar is temporarily replaced by that same thumbnail.
To prevent accidental sending, tapping the suggestion does not dispatch the file immediately. Instead, it opens the built-in media editor where you can review the content, add captions, or attach stickers before sending. If unwanted, suggestions can simply be ignored using a close button.

The new feature turns on automatically once it reaches your account, but because the rollout is gradual, it may take some weeks to appear everywhere. For those who prefer not to use it, disabling the feature is straightforward. Simply navigate to Settings, tap on Chats, and toggle off the "Recent media suggestions" option.
Impact on Everyday Messaging
This quality-of-life update streamlines media sharing by cutting down the taps required to send screenshots or fresh photos. By bringing recent captures to the forefront of active conversations, WhatsApp makes sharing moments faster and more frictionless for global users.
