iOS 27.2 reveals Apple’s Messages app could soon get highly requested change
Upcoming iOS 27.2 update includes code pointing to a new feature that will exclude muted conversations from the unread badge count in Messages.
Apple is preparing to launch the iOS 27.2 update, and fresh code discoveries suggest that a highly requested feature for the Messages app is finally on the horizon.
According to 9to5Mac, the upcoming software release contains references indicating that users will soon be able to exclude muted conversations from the unread badge count on the app icon.
This change addresses a common annoyance for many users who are part of busy group chats or participate in numerous threads, where unread messages continuously increment the badge count despite notifications being silenced.
While spotted in the software's code ahead of its public release, this thoughtful tweak demonstrates Apple's ongoing focus on improving user experience and minimizing notification fatigue across its ecosystem.
