Opendoor founder Eric Wu tackles construction labor crunch with AI startup NavigateAI
Eric Wu, former head of Opendoor, has launched NavigateAI to build hands-free AI copilots for construction workers amid severe labor shortages.

Eric Wu, who previously built and led Opendoor before stepping down in 2022, has brought his newest venture, NavigateAI, out of stealth. The company is tackling one of the construction industry's most persistent and severe challenges: a deep labor shortage.
NavigateAI is building AI copilots designed to give construction workers real-time, hands-free guidance. By leveraging smartphones and Meta's AI glasses, the technology delivers operational instructions directly in the field, aiming to boost efficiency and safety.
The startup's potential has already attracted significant backing. NavigateAI secured $25 million in funding from notable investors including Elad Gil, Khosla Ventures, and homebuilder Lennar, providing the capital needed to scale its technology.
The labor crunch in construction has reached critical levels, underscored by the reality that single data center projects alone now require between 4,000 and 5,000 workers apiece. As demand outpaces the available workforce, AI-driven solutions are emerging as essential tools for the future of infrastructure development.
