Expanding Health Integration on Android
ChatGPT Health was originally announced earlier this year, with OpenAI rolling it out more widely back in July. However, while the feature is already available in the US on both iOS and Android platforms, Android users have been missing a crucial integration — Google Health support. Although iPhone users can connect ChatGPT Health to Apple Health, a similar feature for Android has remained unavailable.
While analyzing the latest version of the ChatGPT app for Android (v1.2026.300), developers found code evidence suggesting OpenAI will soon let users connect ChatGPT to Google Health. Since wearable data from smartwatches and fitness trackers typically syncs with Google Health, this upcoming integration will make the AI's health features significantly more practical for everyday users.

The app inspection revealed code intended to add support for several Android Health Connect permissions. Most importantly, the app may soon support reading historical health data from Google Health. This capability will allow the AI to draw inferences and provide personalized insights from health information collected over an extended period.
Additionally, the READ_HEALTH_DATA_IN_BACKGROUND permission suggests the app could access health data without requiring the user to explicitly open the interface. Other spotted permissions include reading metrics such as body weight, basal metabolic rate, body fat, lean muscle mass, bone mass, and reproductive health data including menstruation, sexual activity, and ovulation.
What This Means for Users and the Industry
These developments highlight OpenAI's intention to make ChatGPT a comprehensive tool for analyzing wellness data rather than a basic step counter. Nevertheless, ensuring safety and precision in health-related outputs remains critical, especially following recent debates regarding AI-generated medical advice.
At present, these permissions are not yet live in the public Android app, and Google Health support remains unavailable to users. However, the active development of Health Connect rationale and permission interfaces strongly indicates that the integration is well underway.
