General Motors recalls over 67,000 Cadillac and Chevy EVs due to brake glitch
General Motors is recalling more than 67,000 Cadillac and Chevy electric vehicles over a software glitch affecting brakes.

General Motors (GM) has officially issued a vehicle recall affecting more than 67,000 Cadillac and Chevy electric vehicles because a software glitch can cause a temporary loss of braking capability under specific driving conditions.
- The recall impacts a total of 67,380 pAWD Cadillac and Chevy electric vehicles.
- The root cause is a software glitch within the brake system control module (BSCM).
- The issue may cause temporary brake loss when lightly tapping brakes during turns over bumps.
- GM will resolve the problem via a free over-the-air (OTA) update or through certified dealers.
Background and Cause of the Software Glitch
The recall follows an incident in 2024 where a Cadillac Lyriq crashed into a garage at a low speed. Following internal reviews, a GM tech expert submitted a report on April 10, 2026, which allowed company engineers to successfully replicate the braking issue during internal testing.
The software flaw originates in the brake system control module (BSCM) slip calculation. When drivers lightly tap the brakes during a sharp turn while hitting a bump, the software can misinterpret wheel movement. This rare scenario can lead to a temporary loss of braking force, affecting exclusively pAWD vehicles including select Cadillac Lyriq, Celestiq, Vistiq, and Chevy Blazer EV models.

According to official documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on October 29, 2026, General Motors found 24 field complaints related to this exact defect. Out of these complaints, 20 involved minor accidents, and two included reports of minor injuries.
These complaints were logged between February 24, 2024, and June 11, 2026. GM noted that it has already implemented software corrections in ongoing production over the past few months. The NHTSA campaign number is 26V717, while GM's internal recall identification number is N262570900.
Recall Process and Next Steps for Owners
GM plans to mail formal owner notification letters starting December 14, 2026. In the meantime, the automaker will update the BSCM software either via an over-the-air (OTA) update or through authorized dealerships completely free of charge.
Owners seeking immediate assistance or additional details can reach out to Cadillac or Chevrolet customer service hotlines, or consult the NHTSA website for official campaign updates. This software fix ensures that vehicle safety standards are maintained across all affected models.
