Google launches its experimental Dreambeans AI app in India

Google has officially launched its experimental AI app Dreambeans in India, marking its first international market outside the U.S. The expansion aims to bring personalized visual stories drawn from users' digital activity to a broader audience in the world's second-largest internet market.

• Google has expanded Dreambeans to India with support for 13 local languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali.
• The app uses information from connected Google services like Calendar, Gemini, Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube to proactively generate illustrated stories.
• Initially introduced in June for U.S. users, the app has recorded nearly 55,000 downloads since its debut.

Features and capabilities of Dreambeans Dreambeans leverages Google's Personal Intelligence technology to connect across various Google services and generate personalized stories about users' interests without requiring prompts. While it initially relied strictly on static AI illustrations, Google recently integrated its Veo video-generation model to animate images within select stories.

Language limitations in the Indian market Although Dreambeans supports multiple widely spoken Indian languages, users can select only one language at a time. The app cannot currently generate stories that mix languages, which could present limitations in a market where users frequently switch or mix languages like Hindi and English.

Privacy controls and data access management The app's reliance on sensitive personal information from Google accounts raises privacy considerations. However, Google notes that users can choose which services to connect, disconnect them at any time, delete their app data, and instruct Dreambeans to avoid certain sensitive subjects.
