Tesla pushes unsupervised FSD to Q2 2027, restricted to Robotaxi zones
Tesla's long-promised unsupervised Full Self-Driving for customer cars is now slated for Q2 2027, but with strict operational boundaries.

Tesla has announced that unsupervised 'Full Self-Driving' (FSD) capability for customer-owned cars will arrive in the second quarter of 2027. This marks yet another schedule shift for a feature Elon Musk has been promising to FSD buyers for the better part of a decade.
However, a significant caveat applies to this rollout. During Tesla's earnings call, AI chief Ashok Elluswamy clarified that the update refers to owners adding their own vehicles to Tesla’s managed Robotaxi fleet, rather than users getting a car that drives them anywhere they want to go.
Consequently, the unsupervised driving capability will not be available everywhere. Operations will be strictly confined inside designated Robotaxi zones, reflecting the regulatory and technical hurdles still facing fully autonomous driving technology.
For the global technology sector and emerging markets, this update highlights the realistic timeline and cautious strategies required for autonomous vehicle deployment. Even industry pioneers must navigate complex safety frameworks before achieving widespread availability.
Ultimately, Tesla's refined strategy points toward a future where autonomous fleets are tightly managed within specific geographic boundaries. This approach could reshape urban mobility and the broader smart transportation landscape in the coming years.
