In late October 2026, the official release of the open-source cross-platform project RustDesk 1.5.1 took place. This remote desktop application is designed for self-hosting as a modern, open alternative to TeamViewer, with its source code written in Rust and Dart under the GNU AGPL v3.0 license.

  • RustDesk 1.5.1 update was released in late October 2026.
  • Source code is hosted on GitHub under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0.
  • Total of 39 bugs fixed, along with video clarity enhancements and new Android file transfer capabilities.

Platform Availability and Deployment Options

Builds of RustDesk 1.5.1 are available for personal computers running Windows, Linux, and macOS, as well as for mobile platforms iOS and Android. Additionally, a functional web client version of the solution is provided for users needing browser-based access.

Key Improvements and Bug Fixes in Version 1.5.1

The development team has focused heavily on stability and quality of life improvements. A total of 39 errors and bugs discovered following the release of previous versions have been successfully addressed and fixed in this update.

Notable changes include the addition of a dedicated toolbar button in the address-book module for quickly opening the web console. Furthermore, the project now adds support for trusted devices version 2 (trusted-device V2), complete with upgrade paths for legacy client versions.

Mobile Enhancements and Video Rendering Updates

Significant updates have been introduced for the Android application version. Users can now utilize direct file transfers through SAF (Storage Access Framework) folders, streamlining the process of sharing data across remote sessions.

Special attention was also given to video rendering performance. Image clarity after scrolling has been noticeably improved through the re-encoding of static frames, and the static frame update parameters within MediaCodec have been fully optimized.

What This Means for Users and Administrators

The release of RustDesk 1.5.1 further strengthens its position as a reliable, open-source alternative for remote administration and support. The capability to maintain full control over self-hosted server components provides immense value for privacy-conscious organizations.
