WhatsApp announces new features including Group Status and message pinning

WhatsApp has announced a series of new features designed to enhance the group chat experience for its users. The update brings fresh ways to share moments, manage chat history, and organize important information efficiently.

• Group Status updates are visible only to group members and disappear after 24 hours.
• You can share old messages with new members even after they join the group.
• Messages in group chats can now be pinned permanently with no time limit.
• A new chat filter shows unread group chats with mentions, direct replies, and @all tags.

Group Status and Message History

The primary addition is Group Status, which allows users to share status updates visible exclusively to members of a specific group. Members can view, react to, like statuses, and add their own updates. Just like regular statuses, group statuses disappear after 24 hours.

Additionally, WhatsApp has improved how message history is handled. While admins could previously share history only during the moment of adding someone, you can now share old messages with new members after they have joined by simply tapping their name in the group chat.

Permanent Pinning and New Filters

In terms of messaging organization, WhatsApp now allows users to pin messages in a group chat permanently, removing any previous time limits. This ensures that crucial announcements remain easily accessible to all participants.

Furthermore, the app has introduced a convenient new chat filter. This filter displays every unread group chat where you were either mentioned, received a direct reply, or where @all messages were sent.

What This Means for Users

These new capabilities streamline coordination within large communities and active group chats. By keeping important notes permanently pinned and making mentions easier to track, WhatsApp continues to improve everyday communication workflows.
