Xiaomi CyberOne 02: humanoid robots complete 8-hour shift at plant

Xiaomi has showcased the operation of two CyberOne 02 humanoid robots on the assembly line of its automotive manufacturing plant. According to the company, the robots performed a single operation with a total working time of 8 hours and 5 minutes.

  • CyberOne 02 robots logged a total working time of 8 hours and 5 minutes on the line.
  • They sorted interior center console side panels by retrieving and placing flexible parts.
  • The robots paused twice during the test to recharge their internal batteries.

Assembly Line Operations

The video, published by Xiaomi Tech on the social network X, shows the robots operating in the final assembly section and interacting with the production line system. Autonomous mobile robots delivered materials to them, and whenever a transport cart was replaced, the humanoids waited for the supply of parts to resume.

During the test, the robots interrupted their work for recharging at the 3-hour 2-minute and 6-hour 3-minute marks. In one incident, a robot dropped a panel, which was subsequently picked up by another robotic platform operating nearby. Xiaomi described this trial as an internship and a first capability test for industrial-level tasks.

Design Advantages and Missing Data

Company head Lei Jun explained that the choice of a humanoid design was driven by its versatility. According to him, the hardware architecture does not require redesigning when moving between different workstations and operational scenarios, making the platform adaptable for various factory roles.

However, the company did not disclose the battery capacity of the CyberOne 02, the duration required for recharging, or the precise productivity rate. It also remains unclear how many parts were processed, how often errors occurred, or how frequently human and machine intervention was needed.

Industrial Significance

While the demonstration confirms the technical feasibility of humanoid robots performing prolonged single operations in a factory environment, current data is insufficient to fully evaluate their efficiency in mass production. Nevertheless, such trials mark a significant step forward in industrial robotics.
