WhatsApp rolls out major updates for group chats
WhatsApp has introduced four group chat updates: permanent message pinning, chat history sharing for newcomers, group statuses, and filters.

The WhatsApp team has announced four major updates for group chats designed to make communication more convenient and organized. The new features cover message management, chat history, statuses, and a notification filtering system.
- Permanent message pinning at the top of the group chat.
- Sending chat history to new participants after they join.
- Publishing statuses for specific groups that disappear after 24 hours.
- Filtering unread messages by mentions and replies.
Permanent Message Pinning
Users can now pin important messages at the top of a group chat without any time restrictions. Previously, a fixed display duration had to be chosen before the message would disappear. This change is especially useful for work and study groups where core rules or links need to remain visible.
Chat History Sharing for Newcomers

Previously, sending previous message history to new participants was only possible during the moment they were added to the group. Now, this is available after they join by simply tapping on the user's name in the chat. All transferred history remains end-to-end encrypted.
Statuses for Specific Groups
Users now have the ability to publish statuses intended exclusively for members of specific groups, such as a family chat or an interest-based community. All group members can view these updates, react to them, and post their own. Just like regular statuses, group updates disappear after 24 hours.
Unread Message Filtering
To help users quickly find important information, a new filter for unread group messages has been added. It highlights chats where the user was personally mentioned or where someone replied to their message. The system also takes into account general mentions via @all, ensuring key prompts are not missed.
What This Means for Users
These new features make WhatsApp significantly more competitive against other team collaboration and communication platforms. For users in Uzbekistan and the broader region, these tools will simplify coordination within large family, educational, and work chats, saving time and reducing the risk of missing important announcements.
