Huawei has officially introduced the HM650 desktop computer of the HarmonyOS series, marking a significant milestone for the country's tech industry. The device has received the industry's first certification confirming the complete hardware localization, as it is built entirely from components manufactured in China.

  • Huawei unveiled the HM650 desktop PC within the HarmonyOS series.
  • The device consists 100% of Chinese components and holds a complete localization certificate.
  • The computer is powered by Huawei's proprietary Kirin processor and HarmonyOS.
  • The new PC targets government entities and corporate clients seeking technological independence.

Achieving Complete Independence

The announcement was made by Zhu Dundong, head of Huawei's tablet and PC division, during the Huawei Cloud 2026 HarmonyOS Office Industry Summit. According to him, achieving full independence from foreign suppliers was made possible through three strategic directions of work.

The development involved thousands of manufacturers across China's supply chain, focusing on proprietary component design, cooperation with local suppliers, and expanding the production of universal parts. Zhu Dundong stated that anyone skeptical is welcome to disassemble the computer and independently verify its hardware components.

Hardware Platform and HarmonyOS

At the heart of the HM650 lies the Kirin processor, developed entirely in-house by Huawei. The system runs on the proprietary HarmonyOS operating system, allowing the company to claim total independence across both software and hardware platforms.

This dual-layer localization demonstrates Huawei's growing capability to engineer complex computing systems without relying on foreign architectures. The transparency of the project highlights the mature state of China's domestic semiconductor and manufacturing ecosystem.

Market Impact and Industry Significance

The release of the HM650 personal computer represents a major leap forward for the Chinese PC industry. It provides a reliable domestic alternative for sectors where technological independence and information security are of paramount importance.

Initially, the computer is expected to attract strong interest from government agencies and corporate customers who require strict supply chain independence from foreign technologies, setting a new benchmark for domestic hardware development.
